Course Times are 8am – 6pm Friday and Saturday. This Course is a new Level 1 Course that replaces the previous Oov Fundamentals Course. This new course now addresses the order of Importance of working on Movement and Control with Patients and Clients.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course will explore how using a device like the Oov can facilitate overall improvement in Functional Movement.
During this course, participants will explore how the reflexes build movement and the relevance in exploring the Developmental positions and how they relate to the areas of the brain.
Balance Training will be utilized as a means to effectively enhance motor learning and improved performance.
This course will also start to identify Direct Clinical Deficiencies, such as Axial Control of the Skeleton, Gait Pattern Dysfunction, 3 D Sling Deficiencies and Compromised Articular function. Detailed and Specific Exercises that address the Correction of these deficiencies will be covered.
Assessments for the central axis, the axial spine, will be used to ascertain areas of interest for practitioners, and how to put clients/patients in the position for optimum change.
This course shows movement professionals and practitioners how to identify and change multiple functional domains in the body using task based, kinaesthetic intelligence upregulating, movement based interventions.
Practitioners will be empowered to assess clients and patients in a complete, whole body manner quickly and safely.
It will also address philosophy, assessment and movement from the perspective that 3 dimensional organisms require 3 dimensional philosophies, assessment tools and interventions.
Specifically, this course will address the central organisational structures, the peripheral biomechanics and more importantly, their relationship to one another, what needs addressing first for the unique patient/client in front of the practitioner at that time and how to go about making that change.
This course explains the inextricable link between the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS), Respiratory mechanics, axial kinaesthetic awareness and inflammatory patterns in the body and brain.
Students will also be given information for the structure, as well as the queuing techniques to facilitate a group Oov class.
This course includes:
- A unique philosophical framework for observing the human form.
- Original diagnostic tests to guide practitioners down a thoughtful path in applying their pre-existing skill set, or the skill set offered and delivered in this course and other courses from OOV Education.
- A new philosophy based Method to increase information to the body.
- Learn to find the position called the Plasmic Spine where the body is open to change.
- An understanding of the Brain and nervous system, and how Movement maps are developed and how to change them.
- Covers the developmental reflexes and positions of the body at the different developmental stages and how those positions affect different parts of the brain.
- A new movement gamut and the ability to interpret these movements within the framework of the philosophy provided.
- A clear and meaningful “map” from the tests/movements to the appropriate interventions to change the body quickly, safely and intelligently.
- Understand the difference between Passive and Active function in Joints and how Global Myofascial strategies affect this.
- Diagnostic tests for the A.O (Atlanto-Occipital joint), The organisation of the Costal’s and lobes of the Diaphragm, the Psoas, Pelvis, shoulders, hips, wrists and ankles to assess which of these areas are relevant to pursue.
- Solutions and movements to change the information ascertained in the above tests.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Participants will be able to:
- Comprehend the body in a new philosophical paradigm – Perfection vs Disfunction.
- Understand Bio-tensegrity and root of its manifestation: Information and Perception.
- Demonstrate correct set up, safety and care of the Oov.
- Learn contraindication and when to refer to practitioners outside your scope of practice.
- Demonstrate knowledge, implementation and pertinence of the Plasmic Spine.
- 6. Implement and INTERPRET a range of movement assessment screens.
- Use the assessments to thoughtfully guide their direction of intervention on the patient/client.
- Understand a new definition of Dis-function.
- Demonstrate a high degree of comprehension of functional anatomical interrelatedness of multiple structures – fascial, articular, myo-neural and visceral.
- Understand the METHODS employed in this course.
- Understand WHY the methods are in the order that they are in.
- Understand how the reflexes built movement and create Tone.
- Learn about the stages of development, Apedal, Quadrupedal and Bipedal, and their relevance in a movement protocol.
- Learn about Spacio-Temporal mapping, and how this gives our brain information of where it is in space.
- Learn what Sensory Motor Loops are.
- Learn about Circular Causation and how this is necessary to understand to change movement.
- Learn about the Contractile Fields, Slings, Chains and Lines.
- Understand what a Rigidity Strategy is, and what outcome it creates.
- Learn what Stability and Motor Control are, how they differ, and how to assess and correct them.
- Understand Form and Force Closure.
- Understand the anatomy and function of the AO.
- Learn the Safety Test for the Neck.
- Learn how to assess the Control and Function of the head.
- Learn how the structures in the head (eyes, ears and AO) give the brain spacial information.
- Understand the anatomy and function of the diaphragm, and its role both as a stabiliser and respiratory muscle.
- Understand respiratory physiology and its effects on muscle function, rigidity strategies and how breath can be a valuable tool in making biomechanical and neurological change in a patient.
- Understand how to observe and appropriately and SAFELY utilise breath in movement.
- Learn how to assess the Function of the Psoas.
- Learn how to assess the Pelvis and understand the Pelvic Rings.
- Learn the anatomy and kinematics of the Pectoral and Pelvic Girdles.
- Demonstrate assessment of Joint function under different Global Strategies.
- Demonstrate assessment of passive Joint Function to deduce where that joint is in space.
- Demonstrate a complex understanding of: kinematic pairs and chains, Superficial chain preferences and Myo-fascial slings.
- Understand how Joint position interacts with local joint complexes, function and global slings.
- Demonstrate how creative and deliberate use of peripheral holds (hand and foot positions) can influence global slings and strategies.
- Demonstrate how Load can be utilised to influence different outcomes of Motor Control and explain WHY and HOW.
- Assess Closed and Open chain function of the wrists.
- Assess Coronal and Sagittal function of the ankles.
- Be able to integrate multiple systems, from head to toe, in a patient for maximal kinaesthetic up-regulation.
- Effectively teach the exercises described in this course to individuals and a group.
- Understand how the concepts and methods identified in this course can be used with any form of Functional Training.
